Long and Short Poverty Essay in Hindi for School/College’s Students
Bill Gates said, “If you are born poor, it’s not your mistake. But if you die poor, it’s your mistake.”
Poverty can be defined as a social condition where people do not have sufficient financial means to meet the most basic needs of daily life like food, clothing and shelter. It is a social evil which is created my man.
The term poverty is often mixed with the notion of the poverty line that may be defined as the minimum source of income that is required in a particular country for maintaining the socially acceptable quality of life in terms of food, clothing, and shelter. Poverty is a worldwide problem which is a major cause of concern even in economically stable countries like the USA.
The direct consequences resulting from this problem are hunger, malnutrition and vulnerable to diseases which have been identified as major problems across the world. It impacts individuals in a socio-psychological way with them not being able to afford simple recreational activities and getting progressively marginalized in the society as being called poor and backward.
Factors contributing to the problem of poverty in the country are many and they need to be identified in order to find solution. The growth of population in the country has so far exceeded the growth in economy and the inevitable result is that the poverty figures have remained more or less the same. In rural areas, size of the families is bigger and that explains the fact of low per capita income which ultimately lowers the standard of living.
Agriculture is considered as the major source of Indian economy. But old farming practices, lack of proper irrigation infrastructure and even lack of formal knowledge of crop handling has affected the productivity in this sector greatly. As a consequence there is complete lack of work leading to decreased wages that is insufficient for meeting daily needs of a labourer’s family driving them into poverty. Another cause of poverty is the rising rate of unemployment which is resulted from lack of education. There is also a lack of adequate vocational training which makes the huge labour force available in India largely unskilled.
The main cause of poverty is laziness. Some people are unwilling to work hard enough or even unwilling to work at all, leaving their families in the darkness of poverty. Personal demons like drinking and gambling also leads to draining of the family income leading them to poverty.
