Swami Vivekananda was an associate Indian Hindu monk, a chief adherent of the 19th century Indian mystic Ramakrishna. His name was Narendranath Datta. He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is attributable to raising religious awareness in the late nineteenth century. He was a vital force within the revival of Hinduism in India and contributed to the conception of nationalism in colonial India.

Born into a blue-blooded Bengali Kayastha family, Vivekananda was inclined towards spirituality.
