Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is financial program of Government of India which aims to expand and make affordable access to financial services such as bank accounts, remittances, credit, insurance and pensions that is applicable to 20 to 65 years age group. This campaign was launched by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on his first Independence Day speech on 15 August 2014. The slogan of the scheme is “Mera Khatha, Bhagya Vidhatha” which means “My account brings me good fortune”.

Jan dhan yojana is a scheme which will strengthen India through collecting revenues. It is aimed to provide basic banking accounts with a debit card with inbuilt insurance for accident. The Government intends to open at least one crore bank accounts on the very first day. Other State Governments also soon joined this scheme. Prime Minister also designed a logo and a Mission Document on Financial Inclusion. He also made it possible for the availability of the mobile banking facility on the basic mobile phone to the nation.

The main features of the scheme include Rs 5,000 overdraft facility for accounts which are liked with Aadhar, RuPay Debit Card with inbuilt Rs 1 lakh accident insurance and minimum remuneration of Rs 5,000 monthly to business correspondents who will facilitate the last link between the bank account holders and the bank. The banking network is all set to open bank accounts of the numerous households in rural and urban areas in the country.

Jan-Dhan Yojana scheme is thought to allow government to return people’s money to them. The scheme is meant to benefit for the poor. Every family will be provided with its own bank account. It will help in saving money in the bank account and keeping it safe and secure for future purposes.
Lastly, it can be said that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is designed to help people of India, especially the poorer sections by providing a bank account, credit facility, insurance cover and debit card. In the long run, the scheme will also permit the poorer sections of the country to avail themselves of subsidies and overdraft facilities through their bank accounts, which are intended to do away with money-lenders, commission agents and corruption.
