Essay on Jawaharlal Nehru in English
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 – 1964) was a great Indian freedom fighter and he was also a central figure in Indian politics before and after independence. He rose as an eminent leader of the Indian independence movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and served India wholeheartedly. He became the first Prime Minister of India from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947 until his death in 1964. Amar Chitra Katha described him as the architect of India. He was addressed as Pandit Nehru because of his roots with the Kashmiri Pandit community, also some other Indian children reverently called him ‘Chacha Nehru’ which means “Uncle Nehru” because he loved children so much. In acknowledgement of his love and affection for the children, the Indian government has initiated two national programmes named Children’s Day and Bal Swachhta Abhiyan in India on his birthday (14thof November) to be celebrated every year for the wellness, safety, and health of the children in India.
Nehru was a greatly famous person, leader, politician, writer, and speaker. He always considered himself the true servant of the people of India. He worked hard tirelessly and unceasingly in trying to make India a successful country. He was a person with great vision, honesty, hard labour, sincerity, patriotism and intellectual powers. For the important part, he took in the freedom movement of India along with the Mahatma Gandhi he is considered as a famous icon of the country.
He took charge as the first chairman of the National Planning Commission and after two years he began a National Development Council in order to improve the living standard of the Indian people. In 1951, the 1st Five Year Plan was launched and implemented under his guidance. And to his credit, the “Panchayati Raj” system was launched throughout the country in order to take a great step in the right direction for the welfare of the Indian people. He popularised the “Panch Sheel” system in order to maintain the international peace and harmony with India and made India as one of the leading countries of the world.
There should be more great souls like Nehru for the world to be a better place to live in. We should also set out priority on working towards the improvement of the untouchables, people of weaker sections in the society, rights of women and children welfare. In his honour many institutions, universities, stadiums and parks are set up. In imitation of this great national leader let us also do our part to uplift our nation.
